Future Cities Competition - Chicago Region - January 24, 2009!


 

The Chicago Area Regional Competition has begun and we are looking for volunteers to help mentor, judge and sponsor the event. The competition is occurring in thirty-seven city’s across the nation and provides the students with an exciting hands-on way to learn engineering, math and science with a personal, real world connection. Chicago has been the only city to compete every year since the program began.

The competition is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the University of Illinois – Chicago.

Chicagoland Engineering Awards Benefit


The Chicagoland Engineering Awards Benefit features the 96th presentation of the Washington Award and recognition of middle and high school students who participate in mathematics and science programs and competitions throughout the year.   The banquet is also the culmination of a week-long celebration of the profession and of engineers.  The Benefit will take place on February 20, 2009, at the University Club of Chicago at 76 E. Monroe, Chicago. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Recipient of the 2009 Washington Award is Clyde N. Baker, Jr., P.E., S.E.Senior Principal Engineer with more than 50 years of engineering experience with the design, analysis and construction of deep foundations for high-rise structures. Mr. Baker has earned an international reputation in the design and construction of deep foundations.

 

Top middle and high school students achievers in the following programs will also be honored at the banquet:  Future City Competition, Bridge Building Contest, Math Counts, and the Illinois Science Fair.

2009 DuPage Area Engineers Week

DuPage Area events will be held Thursday, February 19 and Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Campus at      201 East Loop Road in      Wheaton.

The Thursday evening Speaker's Forum on February 19 is a presentation on the O'Hare Modernization Program (OMP).   The evening will begin at 6:30 PM with a brief reception and a chance to network with fellow engineers followed by the presentation, including time for questions.

The Saturday event, February 21, is also free and open to the public from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  It features interactive displays and presentations that are fun and educational and are designed to enhance children's interest in math, science and engineering.

Northwestern University Society of Women Engineers hosts their 38th Annual Career Day for Girls

Saturday February 28th, 2009

At the Technological Institute at Northwestern's Evanston campus from:

8:30 am-3:30 pm

The day consists of a keynote speaker, mini-design competition, lab tours and engineering panels.  Pre-registration is required for all  participants.

AAAEA Essay/Poster Contest for 2008 E-Week

Sponsored by the AAAEA, the Essay/ Poster Contest is open to all students in the 3rd through 8th grades in the Chicago land area schools. The purpose of the contest is to stimulate students to consider careers in engineering by fostering interest in engineering through research, essay writing, creating a poster and interacting with engineers.
 
  Students submit an essay and a poster about an engineer that they admire or have made an impact on their life. The essay should explain who the engineer is and why the student admires this engineer. The poster should depict some aspect of the engineer and the engineer’s accomplishment.

On February 25, 2005, the WSE presented Dr. Robert Langer, Sc.D, Kenneth J. Germeshausen Professor of Chemical Biomedical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with the 2005 Washington Award

Congratuations to  the Hubble Middle School (Chicago Regional Future Cities winner) on  their 12th place finish at the National Competition in Washington D.C.
 
  The 2005 Math Counts regional winners were reconginzed at the banquet
 
  2005 Bridge Building Contest finalsts and winners were recognized
